Abstract
The study of variability within the year of the meteorological parameters in Greece, is conducted by using properly created indices. The definition of these indices is based on the values of meteorological parameters such as temperature, by taking into account the sinusoidal change of these values within the year, because of the succession of seasons. The meteorological data are derived from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service and refer to 35 meteorological stations of the HNMS network. The deviation of the meteorological data from theoretical, ideal values is estimated, in order to determine by using proper statistical methods the indices’ values. Subsequently the interannual change of the indices’ values is examined for a time period over 50 years, depending on data availability. Finally is investigated whether the indices defined in the way that above described, are suitable for the quantification of climate change in Greece.
