Abstract

The PhD thesis aims to design, implement and performance evaluation of warning systems for drivers about car accidents and problems on the roads (dangerous situations such as accidents on motorways and managing emergencies such as fires, water leakage in large quantities, fallen trees, rock avalanche on mountain roads) using VANET networks (Vehicular Ad hoc NETworks).
In recent years, Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) is an active area of research and development and allows the communication between vehicles. These networks can be used for a variety of applications such as traffic management on motorways, emergency services and the prevention of conflict between vehicles. At the same time, these vehicles can be considered as stations with entertainment services that can provide to passengers (tourist information, music, movies). Therefore, the design, simulation and development of VANETs are a challenge and aims to investigate the behavior and performance.
This study will be completed with the presentation and analysis of simulation results related to network quality. Finally, the conclusions about the risks and safety on roads, traffic situations and driving comfort (reducing further risks and avoid fatal car accidents) will be discussed.
